Wacker Chemie

Social Intranet Unily as Entrance
in-to Digital Workplace

In 1914 Dr. Alexander Wacker founded the Gesellschaft für elektrochemi-sche Industrie AG (Society for electro-chemical Industry). Today, Wacker Chemie AG is a globally operating chemical group with about 14,700 employees* and 24 pro-duction plants. WACKER broke new ground in the project: With the agile Lean Workplace method from T-Systems MMS, the project was launched under the joint project management of the IT and Corporate Communi-cations divisions. The aim was to strengthen the relevance of the intranet in the Digitial Workplace and to facilitate the seamless interaction of the digital tools. The new WACKER GLOBE serves as an aggregator of various collaboration and service tools such as Office 365, SharePoint Online or ServiceNow, as well as a communication platform for news, events and dialog. T-Systems MMS acted as a consultant to the WACKER team dur-ing all project phases, from conception to implementation and successful launch.

Modern Communication and Integration of existing Tools

Wacker Chemie AG is a traditional company with headquarters in Munich, which has expanded into a global corporation. As a result, the demands on the digital workplace, international exchange and the seamless interaction of the individual tools have also grown. It was therefore important that the new intranet meets the technological requirements and supports the change to a digital corporate culture and communication.

  • Solution

Social Intranet – the Linking Element in Digital Workplace

T-Systems MMS used the Lean Workplace method with its four phases to implement this project. In the first phase, sco-ping, the project team determined the requirements for the new platform in expert discussions and workshops. In the discovery phase, 150 selected employees put three possible solutions through their paces and finally opted for the Unily platform, which also serves as the basis for the integration of other IT solutions. During the design phase, T-Systems MMS supported the WACKER project team in developing the content concept, training publishers and implementing the Unily platform based on the Azure cloud. After the successful launch, in the fourth phase Learning & Growth, T-Systems MMS continues to advise and support the WACKER team in the ongoing technical and professional development of the intranet.
