Bundesagentur für Arbeit – Usability test

T-Systems Multimedia Solutions performed usability testing for over 60,000 Bundesagentur für Arbeit pages.

The task

For the new internet presence of the Bundesagentur für Arbeit (www.arbeitsagentur.de) the new concept included a usability test, including eye tracking, under real conditions with a representative sample of test persons. The objective of the test was to ensure optimal use for all users of the application.

The solution

For the usability test, typical tasks were performed by potential users with the application.  The entire test process was documented for example with spontaneous commentaries by the test persons, as well as facial expressions, and gestures of the users. It also included the complete monitor activity (mouse clicks, keyboard entries, eye movement coordinates...).

These data were captured in a synchronized video and subsequently evaluated by our usability experts.

Using the improvement suggestions made, the application could be adapted to customer requirements.

Benefits for the client

The Bundesagentur für Arbeit website has one of the highest hit rates in Germany. The target group area covers both younger internet users, older employees with little internet experience, as well as users without school qualifications right through to academics. The internet package covers almost 60,000 pages. With the usability test of all target groups, a simple and effective solution could be realized for all.
