Media Center – More than just television on your computer.
Video via the Internet? Yes!
Online video portals have gained huge popularity and most television broadcasters now offer video content via the net. With the kind help of ARTE, T-Systems has picked up on this trend and developed an innovative prototype Media Center. The prototype was first presented at CeBIT 2007 where it met with an enthusiastic response, sparking lively interest amongst visitors to the trade fair.
Gone are the days when the viewing experience was impaired by pixilated, jerky video, confusing navigation or dated content. The Media Center opens up a new dimension of viewing enjoyment for users. An intuitive user interface allows visitors not only to access current programs in real-time but also to select and view older broadcasts from a timeline. Teasers alert users to upcoming programs. In addition, users can rate and comment on all programs, in virtually the same way as in popular online communities. In this way, the user becomes part of the media package and can provide important feedback regarding the popularity of individual content, thus maximizing the success of the media center. A search function allows users to search through dossiers, the program and film titles. Tagged media content provides users of the media center with yet another way of accessing the services on offer. With the help of AJAX, the media center also presents the user with an automatically generated list of search suggestions. The system also provides scope for further added-value services, e.g. a video-on-demand function with an integrated digital rights management system, an online shop and customized offers from partner organizations.
The Media Center prototype was developed on the basis of CoreMedia CMS and animated in Flash. The Media Center has been developed to allow for flexibility in the choice of development tools that can be used, and it can be seamlessly integrated with any existing Internet setup. T-Systems are currently working on extending the features and functionality of the Media Center.
